Un team di ricercatori del St. Michael’s Hospital a Toronto in una ricerca pubblicata su “Nature Communications” ha rivelato il segreto dell’extravergine di oliva, il motivo per cui fa bene al cuore e in generale alla salute cardiovascolare.
L’alimento aumenterebbero concentrazione di una proteina proteggi-cuore nel sangue (ApoA-IV) impedendo la formazione di trombi ed evitando ictus e infarti. L’APO A-IV tiene a bada le piastrine (le cellule che servono a evitare emorragie) che, se si aggregano impropriamente, possono generare trombi (bloccando la circolazione del sangue).
I ricercatori hanno descritto il meccanismo con cui la molecola si lega a un recettore sulle piastrine impedendo loro di aggregarsi. I livelli plasmatici della benefica ApoA-IV aumentano con l’ingestione di cibi che contengono grassi insaturi come l’olio extra-vergine e tale proteina, riducendo la capacità delle piastrine di aggregarsi, impedirebbe la creazione di trombi che occludono le arterie.
Gli esperti auspicano che i risultati della ricerca possano portare a nuove terapie preventive e protettive per la salute cardiovascolare.
